Obiri Boahen scores Mahama 10%

In the wake of IMANI Ghana’s grading of the governing National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) fulfilment of its 2012 manifesto, the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has said he will give the Mahama administration only 10 per cent.

IMANI, at a programme called Final Report Card on the National Democratic Congress’ performance in office at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra on Thursday, scored the NDC 52.9%, a fair rating by its standards.

But Mr Boahen disagreed with the ranking, saying in light of the hardships Ghanaians were facing as a result of the mismanagement of the country’s resources in addition to corruption and profligacy by the government, the figure did not reflect the “reality of the situation on the ground”.

To him, given that the government had failed to act on the recommendations of committees it had set up to investigate corruption, 52.9% was too much of a high score for an administration he believes was not interested in improving governance and the lot of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Accra100.5FM’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, on Friday October 7, 2016, Mr Boahen asked: “So if you score some party 52% and it is a true assessment, then why is President Mahama campaigning?”

To him, IMANI’s evaluation of the fulfilment of the NDC manifesto was a “mere academic exercise” which did not resonate with the man on the street.

“I will, as an ordinary Ghanaian, say the government did nothing. The only sectors the government performed creditably in were the stealing of funds and excessive spending,” he expressed.

“I will give 10%,” he told host Chief Jerry Forson with regards to the grading of the NDC on the extent of fulfilment of its 2012 manifesto.
