Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has responded to growing public concern about her health after an old clip from her talk show resurfaced, sparking rumours that she is battling cancer.
The video, originally from an episode of Mercy’s Menu featuring veteran actress Joke Silva, showed Mercy discussing a past health scare involving her thyroid. In the clip, she recalled undergoing surgery after doctors suspected a cancerous tumour. However, the edited version that began circulating online led many fans to believe she was currently battling cancer, prompting an outpouring of prayers and concern on social media.
To set the record straight, Mercy took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to clarify the situation and reassure fans.
“Thank you to all of you who have been calling and sending messages, and prayers. I do appreciate it so much, but I do not have cancer,” she stated.
She explained that the viral clip had been misleadingly edited, leaving out important context. “I noticed that a clip from my TV show, Mercy’s Menu, has been flying around, and I think it was cut, they cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scare. It means that I’ve this swelling on my neck, if you can see the line there, and my doctors felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid,” she said.
Mercy emphasized that while the situation was concerning at the time, she is now in good health. “I’m perfectly okay. Thank you so much for all of your calls and your messages. I’m perfectly fine and I do not have cancer.”
The actress, who has long been open about her personal experiences, reminded her audience that while she did face a health challenge, it was a scare, not a diagnosis.
Her clarification comes as a relief to many of her fans and followers, who flooded the comment section with continued well wishes and support.
