Police officer killed by unidentified gunmen

A police officer identified as Bernard Ayine has been killed by some unidentified gunmen. At about 1:30am Monday, October 3, the deceased with service number 47537 was attacked at his duty point on the Spintex Road.

The armed men took away his AK 47 rifle, 3news.com was told. Another private security man was wounded with a machete as he was slashed on the head and hands. The police was called in but when they responded they found the police officer, 29, in an unstable condition.

The two were rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency treatment but Ayine was later pronounced dead.

The private security man is still receiving treatment. The police have since began investigations into the fatal incident and calling on the public to voluntarily offer information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command, Affia Tenge, the on-the-run gunmen pose a risk to society with the stolen rifle. The deceased was attached to the National SWAT team at the headquarters. He had no children.
