Ministry Rehabilitating 21 Vocational Schools

Accra (Greater Accra), 9 Dec.,

The Minister of Employment and social welfare, has started rehabilitating 21 National vocational Training Institutes to absorb additional 300,000 post junior secondary school graduates for training annually. This is being made possible through a British government grant. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of employment and social welfare said this is a speech read for him at the 23rd annual certification day of the opportunities industrialization centre (OIC) at the weekend. OIC Accra, A non-profit making, fee-free, community-based programme aims at improving the life of the disadvantaged and unemployed youths. The programme saw 193 trainees graduating in ten skills namely, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricals, catering, secretarial services, ceramics, graphic arts, motor mechanics and textiles. The minister said available data from the third round of the Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS3) reveals serious imbalances in the training of vocational and technical students in the country. “This implies that the vision of Ghana to become a middle-income country by the year 2020 demands a more rigorous approach to vocational and technical education and training delivery in Ghana,” He said.
