We need to unite for peaceful elections – Prof Karikari

Professor Kwame Karikari, an Ambassador for Civil Society Organisations for Sustainable Development Goals, has said there is the need for all Ghanaians to unite for peaceful polls to be held.

He said it is the role of political parties to help prevent violence and other criminal acts in the country.

Professor Karikari said this at a public forum organised by the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) in collaboration with STAR-Ghana in Tamale.

The forum was to engage the political parties on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their party policies and manifestos.

Prof Karikari urged politicians to focus on the SDGs in their campaign messages and avoid using abusive words against their opponents.

He said there is the need to promote rule of law at the national level to ensure equal access to justice for all Ghanaians.

Mr Bernard Anaba, Policy Analyst at ISODEC, said about 22 per cent of Ghanaians live under poverty while about seven per cent live under extreme poverty.

He called on the political parties to collaborate with government to promote development-oriented policies that would support productive activities and entrepreneurship.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals is a set of seventeen “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them.
