Amissah-Arthur chased away with change slogan

The presence of Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in the Akuapem North Constituency of the Eastern Region over the weekend apparently did not enthuse the constituents who welcomed him in deafening unison, “We want change.”

The vice president was on the Akuapem Ridge as a special guest of honour for the grand durbar and fun raising ceremony that climaxed the annual Odwira Festival of the chiefs and people of Larteh.

The spontaneous “We want change” mantra of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was led by the Loyal Ladies of the NPP, a group within the party’s youth wing, and a cross-section of Larteh citizens.

The incident was said to have overwhelmed the second gentleman of the land and his entourage.

The serene town of Larteh came alive when the Loyal Ladies’ campaign hit the town with support from some NPP street campaigners.

The young ladies defied a downpour and chanted “we want change” to the admiration of onlookers. Not even the presence of the security agents could deter the highly charged ladies of the party.

The clarion call for change attracted remarks from the veep when he later addressed the gathering of chiefs and the people.

Mr Amissah-Arthur’s address focused on the occurrence.

He said though the country was in a political season, he never expected that action since he was not invited for a political programme. The parliamentary candidate of the NPP in the constituency, Nana Ama Dokua, who graced the occasion, reiterated the change mantra and demanded free and fair elections slated for December 7.

She donated GH¢10,000 during the fundraising segment of the grand durbar.

Members of another group, Mahama Ladies, who were seen following the bus that was conveying the Loyal Ladies, asked to be allowed to join the NPP campaign.

They then requested some T-shirts. In the full glare of passers-by, the Mahama Ladies reportedly changed into Loyal Ladies’ T-shirts and joined the campaign trail.
