Northern Region Celebrates Farmers Day At Yendi

Yendi (Northern Region) 8 Dec., The Northern Region has celebrated the 13th National Farmers Day at Yendi with a call on District Assemblies to use part of their common fund to boost Agricultural production in their localities. Mr.. Gilbert Seidu Iddi, the Regional Minister said in a speech read on his behalf that no nation can attain food security without adequate investment in food production. He said whilst the district assemblies are expected to play their role in increasing food yield especially in rural areas, central government is also collaborating with non-governmental organisations like the small-holder agricultural authority to achieve the same objective. This collaboration has resulted in the provision of food production. Mr.. Iddi appealed to chiefs to use their influence to help minimize bushfires which account for post-harvest losses in many communities. He congratulated the 37 best farmers in the region who received several awards ranging from bicycles, fertilizers, Wellington boots to farming implements.
