Man, 38, commits suicide over microfinance scam

A 38-year-old man has reportedly committed suicide at Aprabong, suburb of Kumasi after he became a victim of microfinance scam, StarFMonline.com has learnt.

The yet-to-be named victim reportedly invested his church’s money into the Noble Dream Microfinance with the hope of gaining some interest.

According to reports, about 30,000 customers have lost their investments to the troubled firm.

StarrFMonline.com sources say scores of angry customers of the finance firm stormed their Effiduase-based offices Monday morning to demand their monies.

They have vowed to embark on series of demonstrations if their monies are not paid to them.

The incident comes on the back of the tragic episode involving DKM microfinance where thousands of Ghanaians who invested in the firm were duped.

The government, has however, absolved the cost and have arranged with the bank of Ghana to negotiate a payment plan for the victims after the asset of the troubled firm were sold.
