Arrest Eastern Regional Minister – NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the arrest of Eastern Regional Minister Mavis Ama Frimpong for impersonation.

According to the party, Ms Frimpong was holding herself out as Member of Parliament for Abirem, given she had distributed exercise books to pupils in her constituency with the caption: ‘Mavis Ama Frempong, MP for Abirem’.

The Abirem seat is currently occupied by Ms Esther Obeng Dapaah of the NPP, who will square off with Ms Frimpong of the NDC in December as she battles to return to parliament.

Speaking with Accra News on Sunday, September 25, the NPP’s Eastern Regional Director of Communications, David Prah, said the Minister’s false representation as MP was criminal, for which the police would have to pick her up for questioning.

“It is a deliberate attempt to impersonate the MP for Abirem, hence our call for her arrest. The Police should effect the arrest of the Regional Minister immediately and interrogate her on why she decided to impersonate the MP for Abirem,” Mr Prah stated.

He added that Ms Frimpong’s actions were “deliberate” and the NPP had contacted the IGP and the Abirem District Police Commander to apprehend her within seven days, failing which they would resort to an alternative means to bring her before the law.

“We are giving them a week. If she is not arrested, we will mobilise ourselves and arrest her as she makes her way to work and take her to the police station,” he threatened.

“We will apprehend her…in a citizen’s arrest. We will tell the people of Koforidua (the office of the Regional Directorate) that whoever will see Mavis Ama Frimpong, she is persona non grata. The regional minister is persona non grata, so if we see her we will arrest her and take her to the police station.”
