Gov’t constructed University of Ghana Hospital – Kwabena Duffuor

The Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor insists that government built the University of Ghana Teaching Hospital and not otherwise.

He indicated that he was personally involved in seeking funds for the construction of the multi million dollar project which is almost complete.

Dispelling allegations that the hospital is not government-owned, he told host of Abusua Nkommo on Abusua 96.5 FM, Kwame Adinkrah that government funded the project through a loan agreement.

At the presentation of the 2016 Campaign manifesto highlights of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) last week, President John Dramani Mahama in the areas of health facilities said they built the University of Ghana Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Duffuor said he is ready to debate anybody on that score and that the facility is not privately-owned as speculated by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and a section of the public.

He called on the citizenry to disregard such unfounded allegations perpetrated by some people including members of the Ghana Medical Association.

He indicated that he hardly comments on issues but this particular debate has prompted his response.

‘Those who are making such allegations let me ask them this, if a Finance Minister presents papers covering a project to cabinet, and its approved in parliament, who seeks for the loan? Definitely is Ghana government…… it’s really disturbing that some people are making such allegations. it’s not true. I was personally involved in the process of that loan as the Finance Minister and worked on all the papers. One Dr. Lawson was the Coordinator of this project; ask him the details of the project. Government sought for the loan for the University from Israel, I signed all the papers, they should come forward with their papers so that we debate the issue, all the documents can be found in the Finance and Health Ministries. I am telling you the truth,’ he said.
