Strong winds flatten some houses at Akyem Nkronso

The roofs of about 20 houses including the chief’s palace have been ripped off while some structures have also been flattened by ferocious winds that preceded a rainfall at Akyem Nkronso in the East Akim Municipality in the Eastern Region on Saturday 17 September.

Several properties were also destroyed by the strong winds which have left residents of the area in awe.

Chief of the area, Osabarima Danso Abeam told ClassFMonline.com that the winds started blowing around 4:20pm as the rains threatened to fall.

According to him, the 2-minute wind storm left more havoc in its way than the rainfall that followed it.

He said the townsfolk have sent an SOS to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) which has responded.

Osabarima Danso Abeam said the last time the area experienced such destructive winds was about 20 years ago.
