Thief carries stolen motorbike as punishment

A suspected motorbike thief had a double dose of maltreatment from those who arrested him, after being made to suspected motorbike thief his stolen booty at Puloyafong within the Tamale Metropolis.

The thief in his late 20s after being subjected to severe beatings by angry residents, was also compelled to carry the motorbike which weighs over 80 kilograms from the scene of crime while he was made to recite “I am a thief, I am a thief” repeatedly roaming the area.

According to eyewitnesses he was not handed over to the police because they suspected he could immediately be granted bail and treating him this way, was the best antidote to curbing the increasing spate of motorbike theft in the area.

“Literally every week, we have reports of motorbikes being stolen from this community. But luck eluded this man when he was spotted trying to steal a bike belonging to a resident”. A resident told ultimatefmonline.com.

Angry residents have now resorted to ‘instant justice’ in dealing with motorbike thieves to serve as a deterrent to others even though the regional police command has consistently appealed to them to allow the law enforcement agency, to handle criminal matters.
