Factories are now churches – Anyidoho

People’s National Convention (PNC) running mate Emmanuel Anyidoho has accused both the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of ruining the country’s economy.

Speaking at an event to outdoor him as the PNC’s vice-presidential nominee in Accra on Wednesday, September 15, the Harvard-trained economist said the failure of successive governments to revamp industries set up by Dr Kwame Nkrumah had led to hardship and unemployment in the country.

According to him, factories have been turned into prayer camps where suffering Ghanaians go to pray to God for assistance.

“The empty factories caused by deindustrialisation have now become prayer churches where the suffering people of this nation are crying to God for help. Go to the Industrial Area, go to Dzorwulu, they are there. The factories have now become churches because of the economic mismanagement of previous governments. That’s why the factories are not working and have now been turned into churches,” he stated.

Mr Anyidoho warned that unborn generations would bear the consequences of paying debt being accumulated because of mismanagement. He said: “It is also clearly immoral and unfair to saddle our future unborn generation with bad debt that they did not borrow because the debts, especially from abroad and also internally from the Bank of Ghana, have to be paid through increased taxation by you, by your children, your grandchildren, and even unborn children – which is very unfair. They (unborn generation) will call their forefathers as totally irresponsible to leave them with that legacy… The incoming PNC government of 2017 will arrest all these misdemeanours through simple fiscal discipline.”
