Use Eid to preach peace – Christian Council

In commemorating Eid ul-Adha, the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has called on all religious bodies to “sacrifice” and use religion to preach peace ahead of the December 7 elections.

General Secretary of CCG, Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong who spoke with Class FM’s Prince Minkah on the Executive Breakfast Show on Monday September 12, called on “all religious leaders in this country and beyond to see how we can use religion to facilitate peace, development and welfare of humanity”.

He used the opportunity to “wish our friends in the various Muslim groups well” adding that “religious leaders must sustain the sacrifice that today’s festival calls for”.

Eid ul-Adha is a significant feast celebrated across the globe by Muslims to commemorate Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his only son in obedience to God’s command.

Dr Opuni-Frimpong said many occurrences in the recent past call for sacrifices for peaceful co-existence. He cited conflicts across the globe adding that the love of fellow humans should rise above violence as Ghana heads to the polls on December 7.

“We see women and children dying as a result of conflicts in places like Syria and you realise that somebody must sacrifice. In our own sub-region such as Nigeria and Mali, in our own country election is approaching and we need peace”.
