Mamobi Hospital charging patients for utility

Patients at the Maamobi General Hospital are complaining about “illegal charges” being forced on them by the health post to pay its utility bills.

According the disgruntled patients, the hospital, irrespective of one’s condition, charges each patient GHS2 for utilities before dispensing treatment.

Patients with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards are not spared the charge either as health insurance does not cover utility fees.

A frustrated patient, Gideon Fedjornu, walked to the offices of Class FM with receipts covering the utility bill which was paid on Friday September 2 when he went to seek treatment at the health facility. “I went there last time and to my surprise I was asked to pay GHS2 as utility bill; it has never happened like that,” he noted

He said officials were also not ready to offer any explanation to patients about why the new charges have been introduced.
