Suspected thief lynched at Kejetia

A suspected thief believed to be in his early 20s, has been lynched at Kejetia opposite the MTN office within the Kumasi Central Business District.

The deceased according to eyewitnesses, was accused of stealing a wheelbarrow belonging to a hawker but was arrested by a security man on duty at nearby shop.

Upon his arrest, other hawkers seized him from the security man and subjected him to severe beatings with life threatening objects until he lay helpless.

Even as he laid on the ground unconscious, the angry mob kept hitting him with sticks and nearly set him on fire with a used lorry tyre but for the timely intervention of policeman who was passing by.

This however did not deter them from venting their spleen on the victim until he died.

The body has since been conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue pending autopsy.

Police have confirmed the incident to ultimatefmonline.com adding that they have commenced investigations into the matter and making efforts to reach out to the family of the deceased.
