The Eastern regional Health Directorate is reportedly considering withdrawing nurses posted to the Akwatia GCD hospital due to some financial constraints at the facility, Starr News has learnt.
According to sources, the hospital is facing serious financial and managerial upsets as a result of a huge debt owe it by the National Health Insurance Authority.
The situation is also compounded by the termination of the plan to adopt the facility by the Ghana Health Service.
Starr News sources say the facility is currently struggling to procure essentials such as drugs. The payment of staff has also become a major hurdle for management.
Power supply was cut to the hospital which hitherto recorded about 52,000 out patients attendants annually, but has just been restored.
The senior medical officer in-charge of the hospital, Dr. John Bello told Starr News’ Kojo Ansah delays in the payment of NHIA claims is seriously affecting their operations. He said they are currently owed in excess of eight months.
He, however, noted that the facility is restructuring in order to ensure managerial efficiency.
Meanwhile, an official of the GHS in the Eastern regional Dr. Charity Sarpong has told Starr News the development at the facility has just come to their notice and investigations will be conducted into them.
