Demo hits Bole over fulanis

Hundreds of residents of Tasilma, Kapponta and Jugboi, all in the Bole District, have protested against the destruction of their farms by Fulani herdsmen.

The residents accused the police and the chiefs in the area of ignoring complaints they lodge against herdsmen.

They subsequently ordered the Fulani herdsmen to leave the area or incur their wrath.

Residents marched through the streets to register their anger about the nefarious activities of the Fulanis in their communities.

Leader of the group Issahaku told DAILY GUIDE that David Gyimah, an assemblyman was arrested after he complained to the police about a case involving a Fulani man.

He said the Fulani, who was arrested for destroying a farm, was later released.

According to him, Mr Gyimah was detained by the police when he interfered in a case between a Fulani and resident of Jogboi.

The residents came out in their numbers to show support for their colleague, who they claimed was fighting for their rights.

Some women abandoned their wares at the market to join the demonstration because of the activities of the herdsmen.

Bole District Chief Executive, James Jaaga told DAILY GUIDE that the police would deal with the matter effectively.

He denied allegations that he was backing the Fulani herdsmen in the area.
