Atebubu (B/A), Nov 17, GNA – The Atebubu office of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small-Scale Industries in the Brong-Ahafo Region has received 400 sewing machines worth about 160 million cedis from Mr Cassius Osei-Poku, the District Chief Executive, for distribution to apprentice dressmakers.
The sewing machines were procured under the DCE’s Special Initiative Programme on Poverty Reduction for the needy youth.
The beneficiaries are expected to pay 400,000 cedis being the cost of one sewing machine in eight months at a monthly instalment of 50,000 cedis through the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
Presenting the machines to BAC at Atebubu on Friday, Mr Osei-Poku said he initiated the programme in view of the problems some of the apprentice dressmakers faced in getting sewing machines after completing their apprenticeship.
He said he bought the sewing machines at wholesale price on credit and decided to channel them through the BAC for their distribution because of its linkages with apprentices and craftsmen and BAC’s experience in loan recovery.
Mr Ekow Haizel, the Atebubu District Manager of BAC, who received the items, said the DCE’s initiative was commendable and underscored his commitment to improving the lot of the people in the district to enable them lead decent lives.
He appealed to parents to encourage their beneficiary daughters to fulfil their obligation of paying for the machines since that would sustain the initiative.
