No Fire Crackers This X’mas

The Police Administration has noted with concern that some people have started importing certain categories of prohibited explosive into the country apparently towards the Christmas festivities.

The Police Administration therefore wishes to remind the general public that the law prohibiting the possession of the explosives is still in force.

Paragraph 1 of the Police Order (Prohibition of Specified Explosive) instrument 1999 states inter alia that no person shall manufacture, possess or carry any of the following categories of explosives: Fire crackers (knockouts); Display shells; Artillery shell; and Ball and canister shell.

Also paragraph 4 of the law states that a Police Officer may arrest without warrant a person when he suspects on reasonable grounds of possessing, carrying or being in control of any explosive in contravention of this instrument.

The Police will after this release embark on intensive search to retrieve any prohibited explosive.

Members of the public who are in possession of such prohibited explosives are being requested to deposit them with nearest Police.

Person who manufacture, possess or carry any of the mentioned explosive commit an offence and are liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding ?5,000,000,00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months or to both.
