First Minnesota Festival instituted

The Church of Pentecost U.S.A. Inc. Minnesota District, under the leadership of Pastor John Kudolf Ansah brought together eleven different Ghanaian church and community organizations on Saturday July 30, to celebrate and participate in the first-ever Ghanaians in Minnesota Picnic.

In attendance were: the Mayor of the City of Burnsville Elizabeth Kautz, Bishop Dr. Vandyke Noah of Miracle Redemption Christian Center International; Rev. Dr. Atta Baah Glory of Hope, Rev. Dr. Oppong Kyekyeku of Grace Assembly of God; Rev. Josephus Friday of International Christian Faith Center; Rev. Otu of House of Glory Ministry, representatives from Christian Covenant Church, Lighthouse Chapel, Mr. Ben Bodom President of Asanteman Association, Mr. Ofori som. President of Akuapemann Association and Mr. Kofi Koomson of Mfantse kuw.

In his welcome speech Rev. John K. Ansah intimated that the God of heaven is the God of love and unity, and called on the various churches, associations and individuals to come together to serve God and work for the common good of the Ghanaian community in Minnesota. Mayor Elizabeth Kautz on her part expressed her admiration for the contributions of the Ghanaian community to the city of Burnsville, State of Minnesota and the USA as a whole. She advised the picnic goers to maintain their cultural heritage and at the same time be good American citizens.

The church and community leaders took turns to address the gathering. Rev. Dr. Atta Baah preached the gospel and prayers were offered for Minnesota, United States, Ghana, and Africa. Dr. James Neizer was the event planner and Mrs. Akosua Larbi Osei the moderator for the occasion.

Activities included cultural dancing by the Minnesota Pentecost Cultural Dancers, soccer, Ludo, Oware, Dame, basketball and volleyball.

The soccer tournament was officiated by Mr. Prince Amoako former Black Star and Asante Kotoko player. The Church of Pentecost U.S.A., Inc. Minnesota soccer team won the trophy by beating International Christian Center.
