Togolese Robbery Suspect Ordered to Undergo Mental Exam After Eating Own Excreta in Custody

A Togolese national accused of masterminding a string of high-profile robberies in Accra has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following disturbing behavior while in custody.

The suspect, Adinda-Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, also known as Maxwell, reportedly began consuming his own excreta while being held by law enforcement, a move that prompted the prosecution to seek immediate medical intervention.

He was arrested in Togo and extradited to Ghana through a collaborative effort between the Ghana Police Service and the Togolese authorities. He appeared before the court on Monday, May 20, 2025, facing multiple charges of robbery allegedly committed between 2022 and 2024.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Richard Amoah, Moudjibou is believed to be behind several high-value robberies. Items reportedly stolen during his crime spree include, $200,000 in cash, A gold wrist chain valued at GH¢20,000, A gold necklace worth GH¢18,000, Various gold jewelry including earrings and brooches estimated at GH¢5,000, A registered CZ 75.5P pistol.

These crimes, committed across Accra over a two-year period, have been under intense investigation.

In court, ASP Amoah told the judge that the suspect’s recent behavior, particularly ingesting his own feces, suggests possible mental instability. Based on this, the court approved a psychiatric evaluation and remanded him into the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for further assessment.

Moudjibou’s alleged accomplice, Marzuk Alidu, has also been charged with abetment to commit robbery and remains in police custody.

Authorities say the results of the medical examination will determine the next legal steps and whether Moudjibou is fit to stand trial. In the meantime, both suspects are being closely monitored as investigations continue into what is believed to be a well-coordinated cross-border criminal network.
