Parliament to approve loan agreements

Accra, Nov. 14, GNA- Parliament would on Thursday take a resolution to approve a 10 million dollar loan agreement between the Government and the Italian Republic to finance the Ghana Private Sector Development Fund (GPSDF) and setting up of Project Management Unit.

Other loans to be approved by the House are; 34,580,000 Units of Accounts (AU) for the Poverty Reduction Support Programme and 6,670,000 dollars for the Anyinam-Konongo Section of the Anyinam-Kumasi road rehabilitation project.

Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs announced this when he presented the Business Statement for fifth week ending November 21, 2003.

Mr Owusu-Adjapong said the Ministers of Roads and Transport, Environment and Science, Ports, Harbours and Railways, Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, Defence, Food and Agriculture, and the Interior has been scheduled to answer questions during the week.

Some of the questions include whether the Minister of Roads and Transport would consider the construction of a fly-over across the Accra-Tema Motorway to link Klagon/Lashibi and Ashaiman as a permanent solution to the persistent and perennial flooding of the Klagon/Ashaiman under-pass rendering it unmotorable for most part of the year.

What modernisation plans does the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City has for the La-Dadekotopon constituency What the Minister of Food and Agriculture has done to help alleviate the plight of tomato farmers in the Upper East Region whose farms were severely destroyed by a strange disease this year; and What plans does the Ministry of the Interior has to provide a vehicle for the Immigration Service at the Aflao Border Post.

These questions stand in the names of Mr Abraham Ossei-Aidooh (NPP-Tema West), Mr. Godfried Ako-Nai (NPP-La-Dadekotopon), Mr John Tia (NDC-Talensi) and Mr Ernest Attuquaye Armah (NDC-Ga South).

During the week reports on the Central Internal Audit Agency Bill, Patent Bill, Industrial Designs Bill, and the Geographical Indications Bill would be laid while the Banking Bill and the Payment Systems Bill would be debated.
