My hunger strike is to unseat Mahama – Maurice Ampaw

Private legal practitioner, lawyer Maurice Ampaw has started his hunger strike today following the remission granted the Montie trio.

The controversial lawyer had in interview some few weeks ago threatened to embark on hunger strike should President Mahama, pardon the convicts.

Speaking to Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, lawyer Ampaw described as dangerous and diabolic the advice given to President Mahama to pardon Alister Nelson, Godwin Ako Guun and Salifu Maase aka Mugabe.

He posited that the advice would divide the nation and send the entire country into a ditch.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw lambasted the Council of State for their bias and political stance taken regarding the matter.

Mr. Ampaw added that, the invocation of the President‘s power under article 72 has in a way undermined the powers of the Supreme Court judges.

He said he would incite the judiciary against the President and call on them to embark on strike if the three persons are pardoned.

He rubbished claims that majority of Ghanaians were in support of the petition which was considered by President Mahama to grant the remission to the trio jailed for contempt of court.

“I am starting my hunger strike this morning…My hunger strike is gaining international attention. That is what i intend to do, to make sure that the dangerous and unwise decision taken by President Mahama is reversed. This President does not deserve a second term, and that is what my hunger strike is meant for.”
