13 fulanis arrested with new voter ID cards

Thirteen Fulanis, including their six wives who were introduced by National Democratic Congress (NDC) foot soldiers and got them registered as voters have been nabbed and arraigned before a magistrate court at Senchi in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The court ordered the deletion of their names from the voter register.

The arrest of the Fulanis followed a challenge by a woman – Rose Assabea – at the Akwamu Adumasa registration centre during the continuous registration of new voters nationwide as directed by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Following possessions of voter ID cards by the Fulanis, a report was made to the Asuogyaman district electoral office at Atimpoku.

After confirmation that the Fulanis had actually been registered, they were arraigned before the court for prosecution.

The presiding magistrate, Grace Gunubu, after hearing their pleas, bonded them to be of good behaviour for two years or in default, be dealt with according to the laws of the land. Each of them was made to provide a written statement to that effect.

Ms Gunubu ordered the District Electoral Officer to confiscate the ID cards and their names also removed from the voter register.

Meanwhile, an official from the district electoral office has confirmed the removal of the names of the Fulanis and their wives from the registrar.
