Internet system for Twifo District inaugurated

Twifo Praso (C/R), Nov 12, GNA- The Central Regional Co-Coordinating Council is to connect all the 12 municipal and district assemblies in the region to the Internet by the end of March next year, Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Regional Minister, has said.

Mr Edumadze, who was inaugurating an Internet system for the Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira District Assembly, said by the middle of December more than half of the assemblies would have been connected. The project is estimated at 196.2 million cedis and the assembly has paid 138 million cedis.

Mr Edumadze said the facility would enhance socio-economic development by improving businesses, banking, agriculture, education and health care delivery.

He commended the assembly for its initiative and urged the remaining assemblies to fast track the establishment of their Internet projects. Mr Edumadze appealed to the National Communications Authority to grant a special dispensation for use of a voice over Internet Protocol for communication.

Mr Abraham Odoom, the District Chief Executive, appealed to all citizens of the area to support the project to ensure its sustainability.

Mr Odoom said due to frequent power outages the assembly would need solar powered equipment as well as computers and network accessories to enable it extend the Internet learning centre to all communities and towns.

He commended Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III Denkyirahemaa for donating 20 computers to the assembly.

Nana Prah Agyensaim II Kushiahene and member of the Council of State cut the tape to declare the learning centre open and appealed to students to take their lessons seriously while parents provide the needs of their children’s education
