Nearly 2,000 Arrested In Police-Cum-Military Exercise

Akwatia, (Eastern Region) 16 Nov. Nearly 2,000 people have been arrested at Akwatia in a combined police and military operation code-named “Clean-up”.

All entry points to the town were blocked while helicopters of the Ghana Airforce hovered overhead.

The exercise apparently followed last Thursday’s mob attack on a group of police personnel who were on operational duties at Akwatia.

In the attack, one person was killed while nine police officers who were injured were admitted at the Akwatia St. Dominic’s Hospital.

More arrests had been made by the security personnel by about 7am when GRi visited the Akwatia Police Station.

Meanwhile reports reaching Akwatia say a similar police-cum-military operation is under way in the neighbouring towns and villages. Gri
