Appiah-Menka urges peace in NPP

A founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akenten Appiah-Menka, has appealed to the party and its supporters, including those belonging to the camp of suspended Chairman Paul Afoko, to let peace prevail ahead of the December polls.

There have been months of tension between the NPP and Mr Afoko. Mr Afoko took the party to court following his indefinite suspension. He argued that the processes used to suspend him were improper and in breach of the NPP’s constitution.

However, an Accra High Court on Monday August 15 upheld the party’s position. Mr Afoko has said he will appeal the decision.

Speaking on the matter on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Tuesday August 16, Mr Appiah-Menka said he was confident the case between Mr Afoko and the NPP would be resolved amicably.

“If there is any problem between any parties, the court is the right place to go to have it settled. The court has given a judgment, there is no need for bad language and all those things. I believe that both sides should all keep quiet and this matter should be settled amicably. …Nobody should use harsh language against anybody, I am appealing to both sides,” he stated.

He debunked assertions that the NPP was divided ahead of the polls, adding that the founding fathers had a role to play in brokering peace.

“Let’s wait and see what the founding fathers of this party will do. We the elders have a role to play. We are united and we are always united. …I am sure this matter will end up in peace between all the parties,” Mr Appiah-Menka said.
