Mahama not a ‘try me’ president – Haruna Iddrisu

Labour Relations and Employment Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has said President John Mahama is not a “try me” president.

It is not clear if Mr. Iddrisu’s comment was in reference to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, who, during his campaigns, has appealed to Ghanaians to “try me” by voting him into office on December 7.

While introducing Mr. Mahama to deliver a speech at the Trade Union Congress’ 10th quadrennial delegates’ congress in Kumasi, described the president as a leader with compassion, judgement, and unquestionable dedication to duty.

The Tamale South legislator indicated that unlike in America where electoral candidates are referred to as presidents-in-waiting, President Mahama was a continuing president.

“For want of words, I have always described President Mahama with four distinguished words and characters. President Mahama is not a ‘try me’ president and unlike in America today where they are saying by special recognition they describe some special persons as presidents-in-waiting, for ours, the president is continuous. President John Dramani Mahama is not in waiting…” he said.
