Thaddeus Sory Denies Meeting Supreme Court Judges Over Article 146 Proceedings

Renowned legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory, has rubbished allegations that he met with three Supreme Court Justices over the ongoing Article 146 proceedings involving suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

Describing the claim as “a monstrous lie”, Mr. Sory took to Facebook on Monday to issue a firm denial, stating: “No such meeting took place. It is very easy to fact check that. We know those who get justice through negotiation.”

His rebuttal follows reports carried by Daily Graphic and Asaase Radio, in which NPP activist Alfred Ababio Kumi — popularly known in political circles as Adenta Kumi — alleged that Mr. Sory was seen dining with Justices Gabriel Pwamang, Samuel Adibu-Asiedu, and Yonni Kulendi at Santoku Restaurant in Accra.

Kumi, a former parliamentary aspirant, subsequently petitioned President John Mahama, calling for the dissolution of the five-member committee investigating petitions against the suspended Chief Justice. He claimed the alleged meeting undermined the impartiality of the panel.

However, legal analysts say the petition lacks clarity, particularly as Justice Yonni Kulendi, whom Kumi mentions, is not even a member of the committee probing the matter.

The five-member committee was constituted after a prima facie case was established in accordance with Article 146 of the Constitution. The latest petition is seen by some as an attempt to derail the constitutional process.
