Accra, Nov.6, GNA- Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) in-charge of Administration has advised all units of the Ghana Police Service to team up with the Regional Commands to eliminate armed robbery in the society.
She said the intelligence unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Anti-armed robbery unit and other operational units such as the Panther, Buffalo and the Striking Force units must cooperate to do away with armed robbery.
A statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kwesi Ofori of the Police Public Relations Directorate said Mrs Mills-Robertson gave the advise during a familiarisation tour of the CID Headquarters, Police Forensic Laboratory and the Detective Training School in Accra.
It said Mrs Mills-Robertson was optimistic that with a consistent plan of action between the uniformed personnel and the CID operational units robbery could be minimised.
She commended the CID for their good work in the general and forensic investigations in the midst of the scanty resources.
The Deputy IGP at a meeting with some senior police officers advised the CID personnel to handle complaints and suspects during investigations with greater care bearing in mind their human rights.
She gave the assurance that the police administration would provide the needed resources to the forensic laboratory to perform efficiently. Mr David Asante-Appeatu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) and Director of the CID said courses had been organised for the personnel of the unit to upgrade their skills and knowledge in criminal investigations.
He said effective investigations could not be done without the application of science and therefore, called for massive support to the forensic laboratory.
Mr Asante-Appeatu commended the government for the invaluable contributions to face-lift the police service.
