Keep calm – Montie 3 to NDC supporters

The convicted persons in the infamous Montie 3 case have appealed to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain “calm” as pressure mounts on President John Mahama to pardon them.

Members of the ruling NDC, including key ministers of state such as Nana Oye Lithur (Gender Minister), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang (Education) and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (dep. Education) have assented to a petition praying President Mahama to exercise his prerogative powers of mercy under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Supporters of Mahama’s government have threatened to throw away their votes come the December 7 general elections if he fails to heed their request. The petition was presented to the presidency Tuesday.

However, the convicted trio – Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase – have asked the irate supporters to exercise restraint and remain composed because they “are not worried”.

The three appealed to the supporters when Ato Ahwoi, who is the board chairman of Network Broadcasting Limited – owners of Montie FM – and other senior NDC members visited them. The delegation assured the convicts of their support and prayers.

The Montie 3 convicts were slapped with four months jail term and additional fine of Gh¢10,000 each after the Supreme Court found them guilty of contempt.

A former minister of Transport Dzifa Attivor also led a delegation of Mahama Ladies to check on the trio at the Nsawam Prisons.
