Stay off Montie 3 politics – Okudzeto tells Ga chiefs

A former president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mr. Sam Okudzeto, has advised the Ga Traditional Council not to allow itself to be drawn into partisan politics.

His counsel comes on the back of an appeal by the traditional leaders to President John Dramani Mahama to grant the jailed Montie FM contemnors presidential pardon.

The Traditional Council on Monday August 1, held a press conference to add its voice to the numerous appeals made to President Mahama by sympathisers of the NDC, for him to exercise his prerogative of mercy power guaranteed under Article 72 of the constitution, to pardon the jailed contemnors.

The three, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, are serving a four-month jail term for contempt. They were hauled before the Supreme Court for scandalising the apex court and also bringing its name into disrepute after threatening to kill justices of the bench.

The chiefs said their plea was in line with the period of reconciliation observed ahead of the annual Homowo festival of the people of Accra.

However, speaking to Class News, Mr. Okudzeto said the chiefs were allowing themselves to be manipulated.

“I am just cautioning the chiefs that they should just be careful and not allow themselves to be manipulated and drawn into politics; it is not good for them. We respect them, they are our traditional leaders, they are neutral, and their background actions are more important than what they are doing. I think I should caution them,” he stated.
