Group wants Sarpong as mayor of Kumasi

A group calling itself the Kumasi Vigilante Media is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Mr. Samuel Sarpong as the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

According to a statement by the group released on August 2, 2016, Mr. Sarpong is the most qualified candidate among the shortlisted individuals. For them, Mr. Sarpong remains the most competent candidate with a lot of experience to restore Kumasi to its developmental path.

The group said Mr. Sarpong, during his tenure as metropolitan chief executive of the assembly, embarked on projects which have been abandoned. It argued that his reappointment will ensure such projects are completed for the benefit of residents in Kumasi.

“Samuel Sarpong, to us is a father for all in Kumasi and a ‘darling boy’ who has the Kumasi Metropolis at heart. Therefore, his reappointment would see Kumasi moving from its current ‘shambolic state’ to a state of orderliness,” the statement indicated.

Mr. Sarpong was appointed as KMA boss by late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2009. He served until 2012 and was later appointed as minister for the region.
