Police have my full support in decisions to foil skirmishes – Otumfuo

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has charged the Interior Minister Prosper Bani to use all powers available at his disposal to ensure this year’s general election is conducted free and fair devoid of violence.

The Asantehene believes this is the only way Ghana can sustain its enviable democratic credentials in Africa.

He said the police have his full support in decisions to curb robbery in the Ashanti region.

Otumfuo made the admonition at the Manhyia Palace where the Interior Minister, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor called on him as part of a working tour in the region to assess security readiness ahead of the December 7, 216 Elections.

He tasked the security chiefs to ensure that the law catches up with any war monger without the fear or influence of politicians.

“It shouldn’t matter if the person is in government or is hoping to get into government, he or she must be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law. The police have my full support in decisions they take to foil any skirmishes,” he egged on.

He also wants political parties to channel all their concerns to the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Interparty Advisory Committee level to seek redress.

The Otumfuo also commended the Ashanti Regional police service for their efforts at reducing the spate of armed robbery and hooliganism which was characteristic of some notable communities in Kumasi.
