2016 Polls: Politically biased police’ll be punished – IGP

Police officers who are biased or act in favour of any political party in the discharge of their duties during the electioneering will be punished, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, has warned.

“Personnel are warned from taking partisan positions in their duties. Those found culpable will be severely disciplined by the police administration,” he cautioned.

The IGP, who urged law enforcers to be professional, was interacting with police in the Eastern Region on Tuesday July 19, as part of his tour of the region.

According to him, he still stands by his social media decision to have it banned on Election Day if necessary.

To him, social media has been used to spread half-truths, half-baked information and lies and will not hesitate on the ban of its usage if the need arises.

He advised that social media should not be used to create any fear, panic and tension adding that “responsible Ghanaians are moving to side with what I have said”.

The IGP said the administration is taking steps to strengthen the IT Centre of the police service. The police information centre will also be made vibrant to mitigate abuse of social media, he added.

Mr. Kudalor pledged that by September 2016, the Eastern Regional Command would get brand new equipment, including a new 30-seater bus.
