JUSSAG to strike over Montie contempt saga

Following the attacks on journalists and some judicial service staff, July 12, 2016 at the hearing of the contempt suit against Accra based Montie FM, two of its panelists and a presenter over alleged threats on the lives of judges, the Judaical Service Staff Association (JUSSAG) has threatened a strike action if security at the court premises is not improved.

The case follows an alleged threats to justices of the Supreme court that emanated from the station by two panelists and the political show host, Maase Salifu.

The two, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn during a political current affairs programme on Montie FM reportedly made threat President of JUSSAG, Mr. Alex Nartey in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem said the over 200 persons who stormed the court was an unfortunate situation and a security threat to staff at the court.

According to him, the staff could not work effectively due to the unfortunate situation, hence they have officially notified the judicial service to that effect and from the response received, executives of the council have assured them of an immediate action over their concerns.

Some journalists and judicial service staff were practically heckled by Mugabe’s alleged supporters who had stormed the Supreme court in solidarity with the host and others summoned by the apex court July 12.

This Mr. Alex Nartey noted cannot entertained at the next adjourned date as a repeat of such nuisance could affect their work.

He said, if the security should allow party supporters to storm the court on Monday, then JUSSAG would have no option than to abandon their work.

He was of the view that, it was about time that regularly security is provided at the various courts since some persons lack proper understanding of proceedings in court and go about making unfounded allegations and scandalizing the court especially when a ruling by the court do not go in their favour.
