Private Newspaper editors unhappy with EC

Some private newspaper editors have expressed their displeasure over what they describe as “total exclusion” from having the opportunity to also publish the names of the NHIS registrants the Electoral Commission deleted.

Their view is that even though Daily Graphic is a state-owned and the most widely read newspaper, there are some places where the people read other newspapers. In other vicinities, the private newspapers get to the people earlier than Daily Graphic.

Since it is a national assignment they believe that it must be an all-inclusive exercise, therefore the EC negotiate with them as to how much it will cost since they are also stakeholders.

The Managing Editor of the Daily Democrat, Mr. Emmanuel Opare Djan, told Atinka News that “Electoral Commission’s decision does not promote the private sector which is the engine of growth for the economy”.

And adding to this, the Editor of the Punch newspaper, Ebenezer Ato Sam popularly known in the media fraternity as Baby Ansabah said in our democratic dispensation, it is prudent the private newspapers play key roles.

There are some local newspapers and radio stations in some remote areas that feed the masses with information and thus need to be part of the publishing process. He humbly called on the EC to reconsider their decision and that it is not late to contact the private media houses.
