Students of Nelerigu Nursing College in the Northern Region virtually marred President Mahama’s Accounting to the People’s tour with a massive demonstration on Wednesday.
The angry students marched through the streets of the town to protest against the cancellation of their allowances as well as delayed postings .
The development compelled the president’s entourage to change route to avoid a direct confrontation with the students.
The students chanted, ‘no allowance, no vote,’ as they marched through streets of Nalerigu while the president and his entourage were paying courtesy calls on traditional leaders.
The students wielded several placards with inscriptions, “Times are hard”, “Mr. president always post us to the various health institutions,” “what are you accounting to us?”, “Our colleagues are still at home,” etc.
The students explained to our Northern Regional correspondent, Ibrahim Nurudeen that they are not against the NDC government, but rather fighting for their rights.
The convener of the demonstration, Abiba Issah, said who ever advised the president to cancel allowances for student nurses “has positively calculated the removal of the President, and the NDC government from office”.
