Four trapped to death in a mining pit at Prestea

Four miners were trapped to death in an abandoned mining pit at Prestea Ankobrah in the Prestea/Huni Valley District of the Western Region.

The deceased were identified as Nuku Allah, 30, Kwame Boadu, 36, Doman Ballana, 27 and Sulley Coffie, 29.

The corpses had since been retrieved from the pit and deposited at the Prestea Government Hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy.

The District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Mwinsori, confirmed the tragic incident to the Ghana News Agency.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 30 around 2100 hours when the deceased and two others who escaped death went to the mining pit to prospect for gold.

He said Ayoni Olani and Emmanuel Yeboah, who escaped death, sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

According to ASP Yeboah, said Olani has been referred to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for further medical attention due to the severity of the injuries he sustained.
