Inter Party Dialogue Committee inaugurated in Prampram

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Ningo-Prampram has inaugurated an Inter Party Dialogue Committee to promote democracy and peace in the District.

The inauguration of the committee is part of efforts by the Commission to ensure peace bereft of violence before, during and after 2016 elections.

The committee, which comprises stakeholders in the country’ electoral process included representatives of various political parties, the Electoral Commission, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service and the NCCE.

The committee, as part of its terms of reference, is expected to serve as a unifying body to promote peace and resolve conflicts in this year’s general elections.

Madam Gifty Adjeiwaa Badu, the District Director of the NCCE, said the committee would serve as a buffer-zone in identifying issues and unnecessary suspicions among political parties and the citizenry which have the tendency of destabilizing the district.

“The IPDC is one of the flagship programmes of the commission aimed at creating a platform for political players and stakeholders of elections to settle misunderstandings through dialogue,” she said, urging stakeholders to work assiduously to achieve their goals of eschewing violence in the District.

Madam Badu indicated that, as part of its undertakings, the committee would work with all registered political parties and identifiable groups in the District to promote peace through engagements, sensitization and political education among the youth and vulnerable groups.

Nene Atsure Benta III, President of the Prampram Tradition Council, who spoke passionately about the need for peace in this year’s election, called on the committee to build bridges of mutual respect and consensus in dealing with election related issues in the district.

He called on political commentators on radio and television to be circumspect in their utterances and avoid the use of intemperate language which could plunge the country into chaos.
