Realigning ECG tariffs without parliamentary approval illegal – MP

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Joe Appiah says the government’s decision to realign EGC tariffs is illegal since it is subject to parliamentary approval.

Mr. Appiah made the statements on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Kaakyere Ofori Ayim.

According to him, MPs represent 27 million Ghanaians in the House hence should be part of any decision that will affect Ghanaians.

According to the Member of Parliament, all laws concerning Ghana’s power supply pass through parliament for the House to deliberate on them and expressed surprised that President Mahama did not bring this current tariffs readjustment to parliament.

He added that the president does not have the authority to sit in his office and make pronouncements on realigning the tariffs and that he ought to come to Parliament and seek approval .

Joe Appiah stressed on the fact that per the rules, the President does not have that right.
