There’ll be no trouble in Nov. polls – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured all Ghanaians living within and outside the country that Ghana will remain peaceful before, during, and after this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ghana is preparing to go the polls this year to elect a president and representatives in parliament. The stakes are high, leaving several people apprehensive.

But President Mahama, speaking on the occasion of the Eid ul-Fitr celebration in Accra Wednesday July 6, assured that the Electoral Commission (EC) had the ability to organise a peaceful election, given its track record over the years.

He said: “This year is an election year and as usual, in advance of election years, some fear and panic begin to enter our people that there will be trouble. I don’t believe there will be any trouble this year. We have voted six times already successfully. This is going to be the seventh election after we adopted the 1992 Constitution and I believe that we are going to vote in peace and whoever emerges as president will do so through a transparent and fair process.

“In the meantime, let us give the Electoral Commission the peace of mind to do its work; they have done it before. Indeed, our Electoral Commission is one of the best in the whole world and we have confidence in them to be able to conduct an election and so let us leave them peacefully to conduct this election.”
