Atwima District Assembly completes HIPC projects

Abira (Ash), Oct 25, GNA- The Atwima District Assembly has completed all the HIPC projects in the district at a cost of 1.3 billion cedis.

The projects include the construction of classroom blocks, and vault chamber toilets.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, who announced this at Abira in the Atwima district during a familiarisation tour of the area, said when the government joined the HIPC initiative, some political opponents condemned it.

He said, however, that the critics have been proved wrong as the country was deriving a lot of benefits from HIPC as was evidenced by the numerous projects put up in the deprived communities.

Mr Yeboah announced that the assembly was sponsoring 70 students in tertiary institutions and 200 teacher trainees who will teach in the district after their training.

The DCE also said the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) will sink 250 boreholes in the district to solve the water problem facing some of the communities.

Mr Yeboah presented 50 bags of cement and 10 packets of roofing sheets to the community for the construction of the local primary school.

Mr Godfred Paul Nti, the assemblyman for the area, expressed appreciation and that of the community to the DCE for his interest in promoting education in the area.

He, however, appealed to the assembly to build a teacher’s quarters in the town and also tar the Barekese-Abira-Offinso road.
