No library, no computer lab for 130 year old school

The Berekusu Basic School is celebrating 130 years of existence after the Presbyterian Missionaries established it in 1886.

The school’s population currently stands at seven hundred and sixty-six (766) but lacks many amenities which makes one wonder if it is indeed 130 years old.

The headmistress of Berekusu Basic School, Margaret Woyuhintum speaking during the 130th anniversary of the school said the school has no library and no computer lab.

She revealed further that the most unfortunate part is that the B stream has lessons under trees and canopies, adding that there is no teacher’s common room.

The Chief of Berekuso, Nana Oteng Korankye II during his speech at the event warned encroachers of Berekuso Basic School land to stop or face his wrath. He noted that the school land is for expansion and development for the pupils as well as the Secondary school yet to be built.

Nana Oteng Korankye said it is an honour for the town to have been able to maintain the school for such a long time.

He advised the pupils to take their studies seriously and get Scholarship from Ashesi University because it was unfortunate the indigenes are not taking advantage of the Scholarship scheme offered by the school.

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency and former deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Osei Bonsu Amoah also called on parents and guardians to desist from purchasing material things and invest in their children.

He advised the pupils to take their education seriously since their future depends on it.
