Agyapong’s sex-for-job remarks unfortunate – Agyarko

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Wuogon, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko has described as unfortunate, the denigrating remarks made on the person of the Electoral Commission boss by his colleague MP and party member Kennedy Agyapong.

The Assin Central lawmaker was caught on tape telling party members at a rally grounds in the Asokwa Constituency of the Ashanti region last weekend that Madame Charlotte slept her way through to attain her position as Chairperson of the country’s electoral body.

The maverick politician and businessman belonging to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s comments have drawn massive condemnation from the public but the largest opposition party has refused to condemn Mr. Agyapong, stating that he was not representing the position of the party when he made the remarks.

However, his party colleague from Ayawaso West Wuogon has stated that although he disagrees with some decisions by the Electoral Commission (EC), he is not in support of the sex-for-job comments levelled against the EC boss.

According to Hon. Agyarko, although the EC has been a huge disappointment in the carrying out of its electoral duties during this electioneering season he would rather the work of the Commissioner is criticized instead of her personality.

“A few weeks ago, I met the EC boss in front of my office and I was unequivocal. I told her that I will support the tertiary students to go to court. I think the EC has been a huge disappointment in the way they have handled a lot of things including registration on the University of Ghana campuses. I will hold the EC responsible for this huge lap,’’ he said on GH One TV current affairs show, State Of Affairs hosted by Nana Aba Anamoah.

Speaking with disbelief, he added: ‘‘If really and truly my colleague said that, then I disagree with him. It’s unfortunate.’’

Meanwhile, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong maintains he is unremorseful about his attacks on Charlotte Osei. According to him, he has a dossier on the ill attitude of the EC boss and will release them, if the public continues to provoke him.
