Ghana needs God-fearing citizenry for transformation – Bishop

The Most Reverend Titus Awotwi Pratt, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has said that Ghanaians need to accept to demonstrate godliness in all spheres of life to engender socio-economic transformation in the country.

“In all that we do, it is expected of us as a people imbued with the fear of God, to resolve to be disciplined, patriotic, selfless and accountable in order to achieve our development objectives”.

Most Reverend Awotwi Pratt, who was delivering the sermon at the commissioning of 27 lay evangelists at the Calvary Methodist Church, Amakom, Kumasi, decried the upsurge in social vices.

“We cannot play the ostrich and pretend that everything is right when issues bothering on same-sex marriage, corruption, disrespect for authority and the elderly, as well as sexual promiscuity and indiscipline are at their peak”, he lamented.

The Presiding Bishop indicated that applying godly principles in the nation’s development processes was the surest way to bring about total transformation, citing how the Western world used this to their advantage for the wellbeing of the people.

The lay evangelists, drawn from various circuits of the MCG, by their commissioning had been charged to spread the Gospel, particularly at the local level to help salvage the society from evil deeds.

Most Reverend Awotwi Pratt enumerated the immeasurable role lay evangelists played in the advancement of Methodism, and challenged the various dioceses to be supportive of them.

“The Church has its roots in evangelism and, therefore, it is the responsibility of the leadership, in particular, to mobilize resources to strengthen this department”, he said.

The Presiding Bishop disclosed that the MCG would be planting 300 new churches by 2020 in deprived zones of the country, and that this project would also see the beneficiary communities being provided with other social amenities for their benefit.
