The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) has commended former President John Agyekum Kufuor for holding the country together amidst chieftaincy issues that confronted his administration.
There were emerging Chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland during Kufuor’s era which the Statesman himself admitted cast a slur on the hitherto peaceful country and to some extent affected his government.
Against this backdrop, Kufuor’s government established a judicial commission of inquiry that were tasked to probe the matter, and come out with recommendations for lasting solutions to the long standing chieftaincy dispute in the area.
In the same vein some Ministers and officials like, Lt-Gen Joshua Hamidu (rtd) former security advisor, Hon. Alhaji Malik Yakubu Al-Hassan former Minister of the Interior and Prince Imoru Andani former Northern Regional Minister all resigned over the Yendi crisis.
Referring to the kind of contributions the NPP regime put on the table in its era regarding good governance and national development of the country, the NDC official said the erstwhile Kufuor administration should be credited for managing the overheated chieftaincy troubles during his tenure.
“He represented this country fairly well in those times” Kofi Adams said on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.
Besides he said Kufuor also contributed his quota by adding to the country’s infrastructure stock a number of projects he initiated during his tenure.
“The N1 highway was a project secured under his government, some water treatment plants in some areas like the Cape Coast water were all undertaken by him along with his HIPC benefit toilets he built across the country. He did quiet well and I won’t pretend President Kufuor’s government didn’t contribute to the development of the country while in government.
“And I believe that Ghanaians really assessed the pace he was moving and decided to give him another chance, where most of the meaningful things he did in terms of development were recorded in his second term. The first term is to lay the foundation, establish the necessary links and connections and I dare say that there was nothing significant to point at during President Kufuor’s first term,” he stated.
