Asamankese flood victims receive aid

Asamankese (E/R), Oct. 22, GNA- Flood victims at Asamankese Zongo on Monday received relief items from the West Akyem District Assembly, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The District Assembly donated 200 bags of cement with the NPP Regional Secretariat donating 50 bags of cement while the District Chief Executive Mr Umar Amoah, made a personal donation of 20 bags of cement. NADMO presented 50 blankets, 10 bags of rice and two bags of gari and some tents.

The DCE and the Regional Chairman of NPP, Nana Adi Ankama, jointly presented the items.

Alhaji Zakari Abubakar, Chief Kotokoli received the items on behalf of the victims and thanked the donors for their concern. Nana Ankamah said the party and Government cared about the welfare of the people and would assist to reduce their suffering. He said measures would be put in place to alleviate the perennial flooding of the area.

About 450 people were affected by the floods of October 14, with about 30 houses collapsing or badly damaged. Most of the affected victims are putting up with friends and relatives.
