Bosumtwi: Assembly members plot demo over bad roads

The terrible nature of roads within the Bosumtwi District of the Ashanti Region have compelled members of the assembly to plan a street march to compel the government to address the situation.

Michael Yaw Nkwanta, an assemblyman for Sreso Electoral Area, said the terrible surfaces of roads in the area had led to several motor accidents.

“Our roads are so bad that because of the frequency of motor accidents on our roads, assembly members have warned if we do not act to justify the confidence the electorate reposed in us, they will be disappointed in us. So we have joined hands to bare teeth at this government,” he told Naa Atswei Oduro on Accra News Saturday, June 24.

He said the district was home to Lake Bosumtwi, the largest natural lake in West Africa, which attracts “thousands of tourists” and brings in revenue for the assembly. But the poor roads leading to the lake had been a disincentive to the tourism industry the government has been making efforts to boost.

Mr. Nkwanta added that some tourists visited the lake and never returned to visit because of the nature of the roads, which he said had been left to deteriorate for the last eight years.

He said assemblymen in the district were putting their heads to arrange a street march, details of which would be communicated later to the media.
